Democracy in America works through a system of representative government. Citizens vote and elect people to represent our interests at the local, state, and national levels. Most meetings of our elected officials are open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
Is there an item on an upcoming agenda that you’re passionate about? Go to the meeting and ask to speak. Are you unable to actually attend the meeting? Call or e-mail the politicians before the meeting to let them know what you are concerned about and why.
Use the Public Meetings Calendar on this website to find out when meetings of the School Board, the City Council, and the County Commissioners are held.
